چکیده

In this paper Wavelength Switching (WS), Optical Burst Switching (OBS) and Optical Packet Switching (OPS) network models are compared. The next future is for WS networks but there is a big investigation effort for development of both OBS and OPS networks, which seem to be further successors in the optical networks world. At the beginning, a brief distinction between considered switching paradigms is approached. Then, specific characteristics in selected domains are studied.

4 Wavelength Routing / Optical Burst Switching / Optical Access Network 4 - 1 Experimental Study of a Burst - Switched WDM Network Testbed

The advances of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology and rapid growth of Internet traffic have generated a serious mismatch between huge transmission capacity of optical fibers and routing/forwarding capability of electronic routers, which has triggered many research activities on optical switching technologies. Among various switching technologies, optical burst switching (OBS)[1]...

Guaranteeing quality of service in optical burst switching networks based on dynamic wavelength routing

Optical burst switching networks have been receiving much attention as a promising approach to build the nextgeneration optical Internet. In this paper, we firstly describe the basic architecture of the optical burst switching network (OBS) based on dynamic wavelength routing (DWR), under which the guarantee of the quality of service (QoS) in the DWR-OBS network is discussed. Then we focus on t...

Survey and Comparison of Optical Switch Fabrication Techniques and Architectures

The main issue in the optical transmission is switching speed. The optical packet switching faces many significant challenges in processing and buffering. The generalized multilevel protocol switching seeks to eliminate the asynchronous transfer mode and synchronous optical network layer, hence the implementation of IP over WDM (wave length division multiplexing). Optical burst switching attemp...

Analysis of Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Network Performance

This paper studies a novel scalable network architecture combining optical burst switching (OBS) with dynamic wavelength allocation to guarantee quality of service (QoS). All processing and buffering functions are concentrated at the network edge and bursts are assigned to fast tuneable lasers and routed over a bufferless optical transport core using dynamic wavelength assignment. Different bur...

OBS contention resolution performance

In this paper, a performance comparison of resolution policies specific to optical burst switching is presented. A framework, based on a reduced-load approximation, is developed to estimate path blocking probabilities in an optical burst switching network of arbitrary topology, in which any combination of the following resolution policies is in place: burst deflection, burst segmentation and li...
